Our First Date...Nani's story

Ok so Peter gave you the story of how we met so I am going to give you the story of our first date. Peter and I met on a Saturday. We decided to meet for brunch, and my thinking was that brunch would give me the rest of the day to run a few errands. Honestly, I didn't think it would be a very long date. Peter chose a restaurant that is known for having a good brunch in Brooklyn a few blocks from my apartment. The restaurant was called Chavela's.

It was March 2014, and I chose to walk to meet Peter at the restaurant. As I was walking, the sky opened up the rain poured down. It felt as heavy as a South Florida rain, but it was New York so it was also a very cold rain. Peter had texted me the address of the restaurant, and I was busy following my phone to the restaurant and had no idea I had passed the restaurant and nearly passed Peter, he was also not using an umbrella. He stopped me, we turned around and went to the restaurant. I was wearing a grey sweater dress and a coat, but without a hat or an umbrella I felt less than pretty meeting for our first date.

Once we arrived at brunch we ordered drinks and sat eating and drinking for several hours. Our server started looking at us like he wanted to kick us out. We left the place and I was eager to continue the conversation. Peter suggested we go to the Way Station. The Way Station is a bar in Brooklyn that has a Tardis (from Dr. Who) inside of it. We decided to walk, stopping at a bodega to buy a couple cheap umbrellas to fend off the rain. We arrived at the bar just when it opened for the evening, had a couple of drinks and kept talking. Once we decided to leave the bar, we were still talking with each other. I suggested we go get dinner at a hamburger place near the bar so we walked over to Dutch Boy Burger and enjoyed yet another meal together.

Finally at the end of the meal (ten hours from when we met) Peter and I decided to part company. He had to get home to feed his cats. I walked him to the subway, we had an awkward hug (where I went in for the hug and he wasn't expecting it and pulled away) and I walked home to my apartment alone. I was worried I was more eager for a second date than he was, when I received a text from him when the subway arrived at his stop and we set up our second date. That one didn't last as long, but it was as memorable.

  1. On wedding day, I had a complimentary attendant, who was helpful in getting my husband and myself champagne, and she also made sure that we were eating. I gave my heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Los angeles wedding venues for their tremendous effort in making our day the most special day of our lives.
