On our third date (or was it our fourth date?) Peter and I sang karaoke. Peter belongs to a karaoke league, and I have been singing it for years thanks to my adventures with Mehala. So when it came down to deciding what we would do at our wedding, we decided to get a K-J (karaoke-jockey) instead of a D-J (disc jockey).
I just realized that our guests may assume that there will be the classic soundtrack for dancing, but there will not be this time around. Instead we will be providing the vocals for our music. Come to our wedding and have a few songs in mind to sing! We are so excited to be able to share one of our hobbies with you!
Peter Alexander Bulmer and Vedana Vaidhyanathan (also known as Nani) will be marrying each other in front of family and friends on Saturday, February 13, 2016. The wedding will take place at Morikami Japanese Gardens in Delray Beach Florida. The couple met in March 2014, and have been living together since October 2014 in Brooklyn NY.

Our First Date...Nani's story
Ok so Peter gave you the story of how we met so I am going to give you the story of our first date. Peter and I met on a Saturday. We decided to meet for brunch, and my thinking was that brunch would give me the rest of the day to run a few errands. Honestly, I didn't think it would be a very long date. Peter chose a restaurant that is known for having a good brunch in Brooklyn a few blocks from my apartment. The restaurant was called Chavela's.
It was March 2014, and I chose to walk to meet Peter at the restaurant. As I was walking, the sky opened up the rain poured down. It felt as heavy as a South Florida rain, but it was New York so it was also a very cold rain. Peter had texted me the address of the restaurant, and I was busy following my phone to the restaurant and had no idea I had passed the restaurant and nearly passed Peter, he was also not using an umbrella. He stopped me, we turned around and went to the restaurant. I was wearing a grey sweater dress and a coat, but without a hat or an umbrella I felt less than pretty meeting for our first date.
Once we arrived at brunch we ordered drinks and sat eating and drinking for several hours. Our server started looking at us like he wanted to kick us out. We left the place and I was eager to continue the conversation. Peter suggested we go to the Way Station. The Way Station is a bar in Brooklyn that has a Tardis (from Dr. Who) inside of it. We decided to walk, stopping at a bodega to buy a couple cheap umbrellas to fend off the rain. We arrived at the bar just when it opened for the evening, had a couple of drinks and kept talking. Once we decided to leave the bar, we were still talking with each other. I suggested we go get dinner at a hamburger place near the bar so we walked over to Dutch Boy Burger and enjoyed yet another meal together.
Finally at the end of the meal (ten hours from when we met) Peter and I decided to part company. He had to get home to feed his cats. I walked him to the subway, we had an awkward hug (where I went in for the hug and he wasn't expecting it and pulled away) and I walked home to my apartment alone. I was worried I was more eager for a second date than he was, when I received a text from him when the subway arrived at his stop and we set up our second date. That one didn't last as long, but it was as memorable.

Random Pictures
I am putting up some pictures because I feel like it...and because there is less than a month before my wedding and I am the bride. This is the closest I get to being a bridezilla...
At three months dating we returned to the same bar where we spent part of our first date:
For Christmas 2015 Peter and Nani went to the San Antonio Spurs vs Brooklyn Nets basketball game:
For Nani's birthday we went to Croton-on-the-Hudson:
We attended a book premier for Talk Rx:
We went to the 39 Steps and got red noses:
We went to our first NY Yankees game together:

How We Met (Peter's Perspective)
(Blame these guys)
In January 2014 having a serious relationship was the last thing on my mind. I was a first year teacher, and knew that dating was a really, really bad idea. I was working almost 70 hours a week and still falling behind. On a personal level I was still getting over my mother's death a year before. So everyone - and I'm not underselling this here, everyone - told me that I needed to start having a personal life. So in January I made two major decisions to that end. I joined the New York City karaoke league, and okcupid on the same day. I worked on my profile with my friends Devindra and Raquel, had them take pictures, and put up a profile. I hated that profile. I hate profiles.
Yet there I was with one.
My favorite television shows:
West Wing, Star Trek (not Enterprise because WTF), Batman TAS
My favorite movies:
Dark City, The Big Sleep, X-men, Avengers, etc
My favorite books
Winter's Tale by Mark Helprin
Otherland Quadrillogy by Tad Williams
The hardest questions?
What do you not want in a potential date:
Outside of not smoking around me (for medical and not moral reasons), and not thikning that cocaine is a hell of a drug, and not being a racist, I really didn't care.
And so I posted it and began to talk to people online. To very little success.
That was until about a month in when I swiped right twice on my phone on this cute picture. and she lived about a mile from me. So I looked at her profile and she liked Dr. Who. Now, while I like Dr. Who it is not one of my top ten shows. Still I liked it well enough, and I asked this cute girl who her favorite Doctor was. To me it was so inconsequential that I'd forgotten I'd asked it. It was an icebreaker.
And then, a couple of hours later, she responded. "Christopher Eccelson". Mine was David Tennant. And so it began. We spoke online for about a month before we actually ever met in person. Vedana just recently printed out our original conversations. It was almost 24 pages.
Then came our first date. But that's a whole other post.

How to get here and where to stay...
Well it has been a while since my last post on here. Wedding plans have moving forward...and invitations are going out soon! I wanted to let you know the hotel options. Of course South Florida is full of hotel options but I wanted you to be aware of where we will be holding the wedding, where Nani's family lives and where we have hotel rooms reserved for you.
Morikami Japanese Gardens is in Delray Beach Florida. It is between the Fort Lauderdale International Airport and Palm Beach International Airport. Feel free to come into either of those airports. The Miami International Airport is a little too far, but is also an option.
We also have two hotels with blocks of rooms reserved for you. The first is near to the Fort Lauderdale Airport. It is the Fairfield Inn and Suites Fort Lauderdale Airport. Reservations for the block of rooms can be made by clicking on the link above. It is 45-60 minutes away from the venue in rush hour traffic.
The other hotel we have booked is the Ramada Inn Boca Raton. It is just south of the venue and the wedding price can be booked by calling toll free reservation line at 866-820-2718 with the confirmation number 96921365.
We look forward to seeing you all there and can't wait for you to celebrate with us!!!

A Week in Miami
So back in November Nani went down to Miami for the week. While she was there she hung out with her parents and sister, had her first wedding dress fitting, had a hair trial, and ordered the saris for her bride and grooms women. She and Peter decided that the woman in the wedding party would be wearing saris. We got the saris from Niki's Creations in Lauderhill Florida, and had the hair trial at the Aveda Institute. Nani and her family also had a food tasting at Morikami and a couple of cake tastings. She brought food and cake back to Peter so he was able to try a lot of the food, but it will be a bit of a surprise to Peter. Still, everything is coming together!
Wedding Registry
Since Peter and Nani live in a one bedroom apartment in Brooklyn, registering for linens, china and other household items did not make sense, so they have chosen to register for their honeymoon adventure. They hope to head to Puerto Rico for a week of sun, fun and relaxation. They have their honeymoon registry up on http://www.travelersjoy.com/vedanaandpeter.
